Propaganda

Speaking of propaganda...

There's an excellent article in last month's Vanity Fair by James Wolcott, "Red State Babylon." I'll work on summarizing it for you this week, but the basic premise is that so-called conservative states have the most social problems, like highest divorce rate, highest incarceration rates, highest obesity rates, highest rates of deaths from firearms. Same for suicide rates. How do conservative politicians and church leaders get away with disinformation meant to confuse and distract?

And on other things...

I think it's a great time to read the Constitution of the United States and the Bill of Rights. We've seen the administration's disdain for these liberal documents.

We can't be lazy or apathetic and not vote; however, voting doesn't end at the ballot box or e-voting machine or absentee ballot. We can put pressure on the State of Texas to adopt paper trails. Printers for this purpose aren't even "approved" in this state for purchase.

Whether 10 percent or 60 percent of the electorate actually goes to the polls and votes, does it really matter if the system is rigged? Mexico is another good example. In its last presidential election, I think the conservative party in Mexico took a lesson from our corrupted voting system. What happened there was a blatant example of how corrupt politicians work the system to their benefit. How is it done? How can they get away with rigging an elaborate voting structure? Good question. It has much to do with the relationship between politicians, big business lobbyists and the corporate media.
